The Montague Hotel

Contemporary$$

If Cheers were filmed in Melbourne, then 'the Monty' could prove the perfect backdrop: regulars chat with staff and fellow punters in a bar that has been spared the modern makeover (think dark timber tables, richly painted walls and the odd clever painting of long-time dining stalwarts). The blackboard menu also receives its fair share of attention thanks to beer-friendly dishes like tamarind chicken wings, spicy veg samosas with cumin yoghurt and the famous Monty wagyu burger. More sophisticated plates also get a look-in: sweetly seared scallops with unctuous crispy pork belly and black vinegar caramel.
