The Newtown Hotel

13/20

Modern Asian$$

Once one of Sydney's premier gay pubs, The Newtown has been renovated to open its arms to everyone, and that's its blessing and its curse. Packed to the rafters with hip young (and not so young) things, and with bar food coming soon there was a long wait to be seated in the new restaurant, the charcoal-roasted spit meats were sold out and the waiters were clearly overwhelmed. What food we could get was excellent: crunchy salt cod croquettes and a pair of lamb leg and beef tip house skewers, with lemon roasted potatoes as a side. And dessert? We ran out of time.
