The Northern Star Hotel

British$$

This is that special place we’ve all been looking for, an Irish diner with huge character and meals to match plus a solid range of James Squire boutique beers to wash them down. Ambience is high, table service is good and the hearty meals are restaurant quality. Mushrooms, brie and onion jam on grilled sourdough prepares the palate, while beef and Guinness pie has an embarrassment of meat and mushrooms, a rich, thick gravy and golden flaky pastry. And not a chip in sight. Hallelujah! Crisp-skin pork belly bypasses ‘melt in your mouth’ and goes straight to ‘heaven on a plate’. The downside of this place? Leaving.
