The Palace is so Broken Hill it has a secret tunnel that was used by miners to sneak in for a beer. Its mural-covered walls also had a starring role in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Meals range from a gigantic linguini carbonara to a lighter, less predictable smoked trout tart that comes with a crisp snowpea tendril and cherry tomato salad with balsamic glaze and toasted pistachios. Like the protagonists of Priscilla, the revamped Palace is a little different, with a supper-club feel, previous owner Mario's venerated landscape murals and a huge black-and-white picture of Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's monster dominating the front bar.
