The Post Office Hotel Dining Hall

12.5/20

Pub dining

Although still Coburg's hotspot, the Post Office is a different beast. Gone is the formal restaurant and the Middle Eastern bent of its former chef. Now, families and young locals gather in the vast dining hall, where, by day it's a busy cafe serving quality breakfast and lunch fare on recycled timber tables. Chipper staff ensure the transition to bar and dinner destination is seamless, as candles replace natural light and a Mediterranean-leaning menu comes to the fore. Well-priced share plates might include pig's head croquettes topped with crunchy pieces of ear, or baked garfish served with lemon and a dollop of salsa verde. Mains revolve around the grill and are also best shared. things like whole spatchcock chicken or a hefty rib-eye for two. Desserts are of the dependable creme brulee, panna cotta and pudding persuasion. It may be less of a fine-dining drawcard now, but the Post Office is happy in its new skin. And the locals look happy, too.
