The Premises

Contemporary$$

The Premises is a delicious double whammy- a coffee-centric cafe with knockout food. Even the atmosphere is a double hit- enter this V-shaped room from Macauley Road for a vintage kitchen feel or from Bellair Street for a sunny aspect with cosy cushions. The short menu features spunky dishes like smoked kippers on bubble-and-squeak, salt beef rolls zinging with hot mustard and pickled cabbage, and Russian egg salad with smoked salmon. Egg brekkies are on offer as are fab poached pears with orange yoghurt, boozy prunes and polenta crumble. It's often packed but staff manage diners with smiling ease. The coffee is superb- try a pour-over on ice for a java thrill.
