The Pumphouse

14.5/20

Modern Australian

This isn't a pub: it's a temple for beer. Worship the humble hop with more than 90 beers by the bottle, 12 on tap including three that are brewed exclusively. Soaring ceilings create a dramatic Belgium beer hall ambience. Unprompted, the barman offers six different tasters until the perfect bevvy is found and makes beer-matching suggestions - now that's service! The food doesn't take you to dizzy heights; prawn and feta pizza needs more wood-fire action, goat's cheese tartlets are tasty but lack crispy shells, but the oversized polenta chips with blue cheese mayo are worthy of praise.
