The Resident

Modern Australian$$

A suburban shopping strip isn’t the first place you’d look for single-origin coffee and inventive eats, but look next to a bike path (and train line), and it starts to come into focus. Thoughtful touches – a bunch of daffodils perhaps – lift the plain, windowed space. Food-wise, interesting eats might include a pork-belly and manchego omelette; and a Noisette-bread toastie filled with pumpkin, goat’s cheese and Waldorf-esque salad that’s tasty and textured; so, too, a plate of tangy beetroot chunks, feta, herbs and slivered almonds. Watch out, city speedsters: whole days can be lost sipping pourover brews and gazing at distant gum trees.
