The Rose is a place you can drink like a fish and marvel at them in the aquarium behind the bar. Ceiling frescoes smile down on you; cornicing and cherubs add to the spectacle. The beer garden sparkles with fairy lights, statues and natural timber tables. Pizza is the big thing: it's a shame they lack the scale to deliver value for money but they sure are tasty. Mountain Goat Steam Ale matches perfectly with a wagyu beef burger, which gets a spicy kick from relish and bacon, but it's the imaginative setting and drinks menu that mark out this inner-west oasis.
