When in a library, it pays to go with the librarian's recommendation. Here, that could mean a T'Gallant Claudius from the Mornington Peninsula, that edgy new style of 'orange' white wine made with skin contact. It makes a feisty, astringent partner for a trio of charcuterie - San Daniele prosciutto, coppa and sopressa - in this highly civilised, always pumping wine bar. A Bespoke Bros rose from Heathcote also plays well with plump pork and paprika empanadas, all smoky mince in a crumbly pastry shell, and with salt cod fish fingers with chilli mayonnaise. A pot of eggplant parmigiana arrives still bubbling, the rich tomato sauce, eggplant and parmesan bread-moppingly good. Add a cabbage, parmesan and mint salad with white balsamic vinegar for freshness and crunch, teamed with another recommendation - a silky Domaine Faury syrah from the Rhone Valley. A dense, creamy mascarpone cheesecake is the perfect footnote, drizzled with honey from their rooftop hives. The joint jumps at night-time but is peacefully pleasurable by day.
