Thousand Spices

Indian$$

City workers and tracksuited locals crowd this sparse-looking Indian restaurant opposite Homebush station. The staff can be run off their feet sometimes but the food comes out quick-sticks, and small bowls mean you can order a little bit of a lot. Dabble in rara gosht (lamb mince and pieces in coriander and shallots), punchy goat meat curry, juicy prawns in coconut cream, cottage cheese and potato dumplings in yoghurt and cashew gravy or the ol' faithful butter chicken, cooked in a colourful swirl of tomato and butter sauce, cashews and yoghurt. Keep it cool with a mango lassi, masala chai or homemade Indian ice-cream with pistachio, itself worthy of a late-night tracksuited visit.
