Toxteth Hotel

14/20

Pub dining$$

There's a lot to like about the Toxteth. It has a relaxed neighbourhood-pub vibe, it's breezy without morphing into a beer barn and it has made a real effort with the courtyard - climbing ivy and the quaint mural make the space feel intimate, but it's also big enough to entice a crowd to watch the large-screen projector. The punters are varied: blokes by the TAB, students, families and inner-city after-workers. The menu covers all the basics - burgers and steaks, including an organic option, pasta and fish, and generous pot-baked pies that are worth a try - but also stretches to unusual offerings such as spicy spatchcock.
