Truman

Contemporary

Truman Cafe made headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2013 when a car ploughed through its window. But it’s stronger than ever, pairing a kitsch-cool aesthetic of mismatched crockery and offbeat displays of toy soldiers with a smart menu. Top-notch breakfasts include chipotle baked beans and French toast with banana jam and bacon. For lunch, it’s a line-up of stellar salads or toasted sandwiches, perhaps meatloaf and gruyere or ham, cheddar and beetroot relish. To drink, there are virtuous juices with starlet names (try the Jane Fonda of kale, ginger, apple and celery) and smooth espressos.
