Twelve Spices

Asian$$

Twelve Spices was one of the first local restaurants to go upmarket, with its mix of concrete, exposed brick and attention-grabbing red feature wall. The combination of uncompromising food, city feel and suburban prices was an immediate hit. Som tum sums it up: a generous serve with bouncy, zesty ingredients like green mango and uber-fresh mint in an umami-rich dressing for just $8.80. Go the Lao sausages and be rewarded with delicate mouthfuls of pork mince spiced with lemongrass, chilli and garlic. Creamy panang curry is mild but no less delicious. The busy and buzzy spot can get city-noisy, too.
