Asian$$

At the revamped end of Dixon Street, this oddly decorated halal restaurant (plastic grapevines a go-go) offers a charming alternative to the more standard fare on offer nearby. The Uighur, from Central Asia, are a mostly Muslim ethnic minority and their food reflects their proud cultural heritage. The dish of choice here is lamb - stuffed into dumplings, stir fried or served as cumin-scented skewers of juicy goodness. For vegos, try the sogah palak - a spicy, cold spinach salad - or the glistening dark braised eggplant. Either way, get in early before the place gets packed with young families and students.
