Vargabar

Modern Australian

Squeeze through Vargabar's door and you're hit with the smell of Morgan's fair-trade coffee and the sense that you've stumbled upon the home of an Enid Blyton character (despite the '50s pin-up girls on the walls). Fuchsia and pastel-green walls, an oversized clock and quirky Newtown folk add verve to this cute corner cafe. Food is organic and free-range where possible, and fruit and veg are sourced from farmers' markets. Dishes are generous and colourful: think baked eggs with chorizo, chilli pumpkin and pear chutney piled on tortilla; eggs benedict on brioche with dukkah-spiced mushrooms; or vanilla French toast with strawberries and cinnamon cream. Lunch offers wraps, burgers, pastas, salads and quesadillas - all filled with fresh, wholesome flavours.
