Italian$$

Beloved by locals and a loyal band of regulars, this long established family-run restaurant is positioned in a quiet part of New Farm. Perch at the bar, relax at a pavement table or enjoy leather banquette comfort inside. Food made with love as well as genuinely welcoming service are obviously key to The Vine's longevity. The reinterpreted traditional Italian menu is rich with risotto and pasta favourites but broadens with steak, venison and daily fish choices. Plump, moist seared scallops on spiced roast pumpkin pillows are flanked by twice cooked crisp-topped pork belly. A generous serving of bug and spanner crab meat is tucked into a tangle of silky house-made rag pasta with a salty burst of shaved bottarga, while potato gnocchi bathed in a light duck ragu, garnished with gremolata and salted sheep's ricotta are light and pillowy. Take your pick from an appealing dessert menu that includes a glass biscuit sandwiched with stracciatella semifreddo with orange caramel sauce.
