Fancy a simple meal delivered in fuss-free surrounds? Head to Vung Tau, a relaxed all-day diner that offers straightforward fare with a Chinese bent. Don't leave dinner too late, however - along this strip most kitchens close early. With such low prices, it's tempting to order an extra helping or two but be warned: the servings don't scrimp. The translucent summer rolls make a light start, with tender prawns, fresh herbs and soft noodles, followed by a chicken salad with onion and fresh chilli. For something hearty, there's crispy chicken with silky rice noodles in soup (filling, but could do with extra depth of flavour), or deep-fried pork chops with broken rice, egg and shredded pork skin.
