Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel

Contemporary$$

When the sun is shining, it’s a safe bet this hotel – perched on South Head –will be rammed. Persevere through the old-fashioned front bar to the Donna Hay-style refit inside. Chilli and lime prawns were light on lime and heavy on spinach leaves, but a barra is beautifully done, as is a vegie lasagne with a good salad. Lots of seaside staples, too, such as beer-battered fish and chips. With your feet up, slurping oysters and a glass of wine, it all comes back to that view. Building works were in progress as we went to press: the food should be able to migrate outside soon.
