Wow, this is a step up for Marrickville cafedom. This lovely verandah'd building now houses an urban layering of cafe tables, benches and stools that's more bistro than cafe. There's a big pro kitchen from which chef John Stavropoulos sends out olive oil fried eggs with braised lentils and morcilla sausage or grass-fed beef burger with beetroot relish and cheddar. Juices are freshly pressed, soda pops are house-made, and hot chocolate is simply steamed milk poured over Callebaut chocolate. Blimey, they even make their own yoghurt. The White Horse piccolo ($3.50) has smoky vanilla overtones, best taken with a giant macaroon from the cake counter.
