Wharf Rd Restaurant & Bar

Good Food hat15/20

South American$$

Wharf Road re-writes what it is to be a South Coast restaurant, with its mighty wood-fired parilla (grill), the contemporary detail of its ship-shape caramel and blonde dining room, and its confident air of doing its own thing and loving it. The confidence is well placed, with David Campbell turning out seriously attractive food with a fresh, local and organic bent, and partner Nicole (both of Berry's Hungry Duck) running a snappy service team. Choose from a swarm of small plates to start, such as soft/crisp fish tacos, beef empanadas, or a lovely ceviche of luderick with crunchy quinoa. Even the fish and chips are bright and fresh, and the house caesar salad is like no other, with its tender pork belly, fresh sardines and soft-boiled duck egg. Wagyu or black angus steak and even lobster come sizzling off that splendid grill, and desserts of lush crema catalan or fizzy lemon bellini are so good looking people take photos of them instead of the river.
