Wood Spoon Kitchen

Japanese$$

High-vibe and upbeat, this Japanese joint looks sharp with its exposed concrete, bare globes and olive-green feature wall. Starters include delicately crisped agedashidofu, vegan miso soup with sweet potato and pumpkin, and pan-fried pork gyoza. Eggplant dengaku-don might be cooked past firm, but sushi lunches whizz out the door and onigiri sets follow the rule of three: a trio of rice triangles with vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free fillings. The drinks list includes Calpis (Japanese) soft drink and 'the art of tea watching', the soothing process of watching flowers unfurl in a glass teapot. Service is authentically polite.
