David Tsirekas moved his unique, ancient history-laden take on Greek cuisine from Petersham in 2011, setting up this tiled, fabric-swathed oasis in the temple of consumerism that is Westfield. Xanthi is chatty and fun, with David looking on from the kitchen. The menu mixes down-to-earth taverna dishes with well-researched historic dishes and a nod to the now. Mezze are more than an excuse to have the ouzo trolley wheeled your way, as you feast on fluffy pale tarama, tender-crisp baby calamari with dukkah or the hearty vromiko - baked duck egg with spicy pastourma sausage swiped up with chunks of chargrilled bread. The signature lamb skaras is a tidied-up take on traditional meltingly slow-roasted meat and veg. A dessert of banana ekmek, the fruit encased in skeins of crisp kataifi pasty alongside dollops of silken choc mousse and salted caramel, brings the dining experience right into the dude food-inspired present.
