Zurouna

Middle Eastern$$

After a decade at Carlton’s Cafe Zum Zum, former owner-chef Dahouk White and chef Adam Abbassi are creating Middle Eastern magic across the river. Zurouna, Arabic for ‘drop in’, sums up the relaxed mood. In the elegant dining room - a mix of dark timber, dramatic mosaic panels and Moroccan pendant lamps - black-clad waiters deliver fresh, fancy versions of mostly Lebanese faves in smart glazed terracotta bowls. Go for smooth garlicky hummus, and subtly spiced falafel on sweet-sour salad, then amp up the aromats with grilled zaatar calamari scattered with pomegranate pearls. To finish? Rich, fall-apart Moroccan lamb and almond rice.
