Our Canberra Times truffle dinner is next week, Tuesday, August 13, at 10 Yards, the little pop-up eatery in the city near Wig and Pen, operated by the team at Two Before Ten. We tried to give away tickets to this last week but an arcane problem hit the email that very morning. Apologies to those who received bouncebacks.

So this week we are giving away two double tickets to the dinner, to the first two readers to email food.wine@canberratimes.com.au between 7am and 9am (truffle dinner in the subject line and please include contact details). On the night, we have an entire truffle to give away as a door prize, thanks to the Truffle Festival organisers – this is gold, given they retail at $2000-$3000 a kilogram.

The menu, from Adam Bantock, former chef at Dieci e Mezzo, includes pumpkin ravioli with sage and amaretti, spatchcock with truffled honey, and chocolate parfait with truffle mousse. We’re matching the food with seven wines, the centenary bubble (a very good wine), and pairs of wines, so you can compare local versions with wines from the home of the varieties: Collector Lamp Lit Marsanne 2011 with Guigal Cotes du Rhone Blanc 2009, also a blend of viognier, roussanne and marsanne; Ravensworth Le Querce Sangiovese 2012 with a sangiovese from Chianti, Antinori Classico Peppoli 2009; and Barton Estate Elva Late Picked Riesling 2008 with Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Auslese 2005 from Germany – a wine Chris Shanahan says will be a highlight. Shanahan has chosen the wines and will speak about them. Bryan Martin will also speak. 7pm, $110, including the wines. Book on 0409 010 227, or 10yards@twobeforeten.com.au
