You can't keep a good chef down.

When Cheong Liew retired (Espresso, July 24, 2011), the former executive chef of South Yarra's Botanical left the Domain Road restaurant heading back to Adelaide and his family, going ''wherever the group needs me''. That's the Colonial Leisure Group, which owns the Botanical, Brighton's Half Moon and Collingwood's Robert Burns Hotel, among others.

While in Adelaide, we hear he's helped launch the group's Print Hall project in Western Australia, and is a consultant for Botanical and Orpheus Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef.
