Just a few years ago Double Bay was on its food knees but its extraordinary fightback continues with a growing posse of operators riding into the suburb.

The redevelopment of Bondi Junction might have left Double Bay with a weak pulse but the area has been given a jump start by the recent arrival of new venues including Mrs Sippy, Pelicano, Fish Face and a soon-to-open Chinta Ria spin-off.

Aboutlife Marketplace will join the flood, opening June 5 in the suburb's car park redevelopment.

''The store is huge, about three times the size of our one Bondi Junction,'' says Aboutlife director Tammie Phillips.

It will include a 100-seat cafe, a salad bar, a super-food noodle bar, a burrito bar and a deli.

''There's a new Woolworths going in near us - the old Woolies on New South Head Road will be replaced by a piazza and library,'' she says.

The next stage of development could see as many as 20 additional food retailers in the area.
