Could your home-made jamon, salami, prosciutto, chorizo or capocollo withstand the scrutiny of some of the best tastebuds in the business?

Chef Ben Shewry, cheesemaker Richard Thomas, broadcaster and barbecue aficionado Bob Hart and chef and baker Antun Spoljaric are among the judges of the 2016 Hamster of Lara amateur smallgoods competition.

It may seem like a while off yet, but smallgoods makers are being urged to set aside some of their hand-made and naturally cured produce for the competition, part of the Lara Food and Wine Festival.

The maker of the winning smallgoods will receive $500 and the perpetual Angel Cardoso Memorial trophy, named in honour of the local artisan smallgoods producer, with $300 for second place and $200 for third place.

Lara local Chris Scicluna took out the trophy in both 2014 and 2015 and is looking for the hat-trick.

Entries close at noon on March 11 and the winner will be announced at the Lara Food and Wine Festival on March 20. See www.larafoodandwinefestival.com.au.
