Classy French brasserie Ananas will close at The Rocks in early April, its owners opening a Tex-Mex restaurant in its place.

Urban Purveyor Group, which operates a posse of restaurants in Sydney including Sake and The Cut, will add El Camino Cantina to its mix. Ananas' trademark pineapple theme will be replaced with an interior featuring 1950s Chevy trucks, a neon-flooded room, a tequila and mezcal lounge and a menu of tacos, fajitas and enchiladas. Ananas will be rebooted later this year in Darling Harbour, opening in September near the entrance to the new International Convention Centre. It will retain the DNA of the original at The Rocks as well as adding breakfast and a line of French pastries and bread.
