Starting their own Mexican wave with a second cantina are the owners of Richmond's Fonda, Tim McDonald and David Youl. The new venue, at 144 Chapel Street, Windsor, was formerly a Salvation Army op shop. The space is big enough to install a large kitchen, where another offshoot of the business, Fonda Catering, can start to spread its wings. ''We weren't looking for a second site but stumbled across this building and loved it,'' McDonald says. The catering came about after they began receiving ''two or three catering inquiries a week'', he says. Their first party was held on Saturday night. They offer only a canape and cocktail menu as it's ''not really food designed for a formal sit-down dinner party in someone's home'', McDonald says. The new Windsor venue has seating for 130 people downstairs and 60 in the bar upstairs. It is open daily from noon.
