Sydney's bagel revolution shifts up a gear this week with the launch of Brooklyn Hide on Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills. But Short Black hears the new operation isn't being greeted warmly by all of Sydney's bagel makers.

Brooklyn Boy Bagels owner Michael Shafran confirmed his lawyers have fired off a legal letter: ''In a nutshell, their bagel brand is obviously too similar to mine. It sounds like my business, the round logo looks eerily similar to mine, and my existing customers are already confused,'' Shafran says.

''I've got no problems with bagel competition … I'll fight … with everything that I've got. They've got some decent money behind them, but I'll be the David to their bagel Goliath.''
