After closing last year, the Potts Point site where Mezzaluna traded for over 20 years is scheduled to reopen today with new owners and a new name. As Good Food tipped back in July, Hamish Watts and Ben Carroll, the duo behind popular beachside venue Bondi Hardware and Kirribilli's The Botanist, are rebirthing the Mezzaluna site. Renamed The Butler, the new bar-restaurant pays homage to an even earlier restaurant at the site, Butlers, which was at one stage co-owned by Damien Pignolet. It also tips its hat to the historic Butler stairs, which marked the one-time social divide between affluent Potts Point and Woolloomooloo.

Group executive chef James Privett [ex The Cut] will steer a menu peppered with "French Caribbean flavours." It is a refreshingly offbeat, with jerk tofu, boudin noir sliders, black bean boulettes and Lyonnaise pork sausage rolls with pineapple relish. Fetch the butler, right now.
