Beer aplenty for Fourth of July celebrations in Sydney

If you've signed up for Dry July and happen to be a fan of American craft beer, or just beer in general, you might want to stop reading now. For non-teetotallers still able to partake in a tipple, read on!

There's a gallon of tap-takeovers happening Friday, July 4 in the name of American Independence (but mainly the name of fun).

Darlinghurst's Local Taphouse is hosting an All-American SpecTAPular. Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and Elysian Brewing Company are some of the 20 American craft brews pouring from midday. American-themed fancy dress is encouraged, there's a US-inspired menu, and entry is via a gold coin donation to charity.

The team at Woolloomooloo's Old Growler is throwing a Boilermaker Battle Royale from 5pm in a Bourbon v Rye Whiskey tag-team throwdown. In one corner is Buffalo Trace's bourbon paired with Young Henry's pints, and fighting back is a High West Distillery rye number matched with American Rogue ale. We're unsure what the exact rules are but with the addition of live music, it seems the punter is real winner. Especially when you pair that bourbon and beer with hickory-smoked pork ribs, beans, and rice.

The Lord Raglan on the Redfern/Alexandria border is tapping three different kegs from Bridgeport Brewing: The Bridgeport IPA, Kingpin Double Red Ale, and Hop Czar Double IPA (the latter of which is their last keg and it won't be brewed again).

Harts Pub, the Lord's sister hotel in The Rocks, will have the same selection of Bridgeport brews plus one keg each of Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale from cult American brewery Deschutes.

North of the bridge, there's no Land of the Free tap takeovers at Neutral Bay's SoCal but there is $5 Samuel Adams and a US barbecue on the deck from 10pm.
