BentSpoke Brewery is celebrating Easter with a new beer on Good Friday - a brown porter infused with liquorice, ginger and cocoa nibs which they describe as "an Easter egg in a glass".

It's called Larken's Brown and is the second historic beer to be recreated by Richard Watkins and beer historian David Hughes.

They say the porter is a "mild, early nineteenth century porter inspired by John Tuck's Art of Brewing, written in the 1810s for 'gentleman brewers'. Tuck advised at least one third brown malt, plus amber and pale malts. And he liked to spice up his porter with liquorice and grated ginger. We've done the same, with the addition of cocoa nibs. The result is a chocolate Easter egg in a glass."

It sounds delicious and festive.

Watkins and Hughes will be producing a number of historic beers in 2015 - in January they made a Ned Kelly era beer for Australia Day.

They'll also be launching a creamy red ale called the Reflector at BentSpoke on the weekend.

Happy Easter indeed.
