Lonsdale Street is a honey pot of excellent new adventures, one of the best food and coffee streets anywhere in Canberra. And now, it’s home to another pioneering plan – the Bing Bang hotdog stand. Behind this project are local designers Tom Skeehan and Luke Chiswell, who say they have “lovingly hand-crafted every element of the food stand” in Skeehan’s studio.

Skeehan is an industrial designer, specialising in commercial furniture (including for a bunch of cafes), and homeware, even bikes, and Chiswell’s does screen printing, fashion design and sculpture. The food stand, they say, will sell beef sausages made by the Lyneham butcher and “vegetarian friendly corn dogs”.

The bread is from Flute in Fyshwick and the relishes from Lynwood Preserves in Collector. "It’s a food-stand, not a food truck," Skeehan says. "We wanted to bring the street hawker culture of New York to Canberra but in uniquely Australian way." Bing Bang opened last week at 23 Lonsdale Street. Friday to Sunday, 4pm til midnight.
