Questacon will hold a food and science night for adults (‘‘a geeky night for grown-ups’’, with access to the Questacon galleries, child free, it promises) on Friday, June 21.

Sam Burns from Two Before Ten will speak on the science of coffee, from sourcing the beans, to roasting, grinding, blending and brewing. Brett Gray from Zierholz speaks on the chemistry of beer, including techniques for brewing, and different kinds of hops.

Questacon staff will make ice cream using liquid nitrogen and Raiders lime and chocolate milks. And they will tackle that difficult subject of macarons versus macaroons, whose differences go way beyond subtleties of spelling and pronunciation.

Questacon will put macarons and macaroons to the test in a pressure cooker, under a vacuum, and in liquid nitrogen), mainly just to see what happens.

Science night also includes live music from a local band (not just any band, this is Eat At Joe’s, and they’re scientists as well as musicians), and you can buy food and drink. $10. 6pm-10pm at Questacon.
