After more than a decade and the service of thousands of buckets of moules-frites and pints of beer, the Belgian Beer Café has closed. Last drinks were called at the CBD bar on the weekend. New tenants for the heritage-listed building will be the team from highly successful Mighty Mighty Cue & Brew in Fortitude Valley, who are bringing the Buffalo Bar to Mary Street.

Like its parent venue, the Buffalo Bar will showcase American food and drink but on a plus-sized scale with a sit-down dining hall, a craft beer and whiskey lounge, beer garden and a separate bar menu featuring 18 types of buffalo wings.

As well as an extensive US craft beer list, there'll be an extended selection of whiskeys, wine and specialty cocktails.

"We've been absolutely delighted to see how Mighty Mighty has been received and to experience increased demand for this kind of offering," said co-owner Simon O'Brien.

"Expansion was always a projection and we're thrilled to have been entrusted with this iconic building to launch Buffalo Bar – a place unseen before in this state, in this country. The building has been maintained immaculately and captures the essence of American spirit in its charismatic Australian surrounds".

The decor will be 'New York inspired' but paying heed to the existing Victorian era façade, O'Brien says. Chef is Adam Herbert, currently executive chef of Mighty Mighty.

Buffalo Bar is slated to open late November and will trade seven days a week. Bookings are already being taken, no doubt to take advantage of the frenzy of office Christmas party bookings.
