Forget freaky Friday. Freebie Friday is something everyone can get behind. The snacking stars align this Friday when Butterbing, Hard Pressed and Zambrero all offer their goodies gratis.

Butterbing biscuits at Manchester Press

It's been a year since Simone Clark and Trevor Stubbs launched their cookie-sandwich range, but the pair still have trouble processing Butterbing's cult-like popularity.

"I've got to pinch myself," Clark says. "The support we've received is really lovely."

To celebrate its first birthday, Butterbing is teaming up with CBD cafe Manchester Press to give away a cookie with every hot drink purchased.

"Manchester Press was one of our earliest stockists," Clark says. "They really supported us in the beginning."

There will only be 250 cookies, so get there early. Everyone who receives a free Butterbing will go into the running to win a Butterboom, a giant version of the signature buttercream-sandwiched biscuit, which weighs in at 1.5kg.

"It holds together surprisingly well, you can pick it up and everything," Clark says. Boom.

Birthday tarts at Hard Pressed

Melbourne Latin American cafe Hard Pressed is giving away free lime zest and salted Mexican chocolate tarts to celebrate its first birthday.

"All of our tarts and fillings are house-made, so the kitchen has been madly rolling out pastries for the past couple of days," owner Phil Gijsbers says.

The East Melbourne cafe will be decked out in balloons, streamers and posters for a proper birthday celebration. The cafe crew will prepare a few hundred tarts, so you'll have to rise bright and early if you want these freebies.

Help build Zambrero's giant burrito

Every day Australian Zambrero stores donate a meal for every burrito purchased. This Friday they're going one better.

On World Food Day, they'll donate two meals to students without access to enough nutrition in third world countries for every burrito bought. Zambrero is also calling for volunteers to help build a giant burrito, which operations manager for Victoria Pam Moorhouse describes as "very long rather than very fat". At the end of the day the giant burrito will be cut up and distributed locally to those in need. Volunteers can register here.

Volunteer shifts are between 9am-11am or 1pm-3pm at the Grand Buffet Hall at Union House, Melbourne University; zambrero.com
