City basement restaurant Brooks has had a few rudderless months since co-owners (and frontmen) Gerald Diffey and Mario de Ienno left in April. But that's about to change with the appointment of hospitality professional Bryan Lloyd as general manager and the expected arrival of other key staff.

Lloyd, who was general manager at The Point at Albert Park for two and a half years and manager of Vue de Monde for nine years before that, has been employed at Brooks to "reinvigorate all the elements of the business", says Lloyd.

The restaurant slipped a point in the latest Age Good Food Guide, losing its hat. Brooks head chef Nicolas Poelaert worked with Lloyd at Vue de Monde when it was in Carlton and the pair have kept in touch. Lloyd says he is looking forward to working with Poelaert again and is "currently assessing the particular direction in which the restaurant will move".
