Alexandria's Cipro Pizza al Taglio, which launched in 2013 with a team of former stars of the Rockpool restaurant empire, has closed. A note on the restaurant's entrance announced its departure with no specific reason cited. Neighbouring food retailers at its Fountain Street warehouse development were equally perplexed; one telling Good Food that Cipro "was before its time".

Some of Rockpool Group's most senior chefs were inspired to ditch high-end dining for their own pizza start-up after being inspired by Gabriele Bonci, the so-called "Michelangelo of Pizza", on a visit to Rome. Khan Danis and Catherine Adams left the business in 2014, but regulars say the high quality of the slabs of pizza and the ingredients used remained.

In better news for the Alexandria centre, Salt Meats Cheese is opening in its place in about three weeks.
