The foursome behind Red Hill's Colle Rosso are opening a second venue in the new Hamilton Harbour development. L'Angolo Bistro is slated to open at the end of next month, according to co-owner Laura Petricelli.

“It's wonderful that because it's being built from scratch we get to choose everything ourselves,” she says. “The boys [owner/chefs David Ruggiero and Marco Mureddu] are pretty excited about the state-of-the-art kitchen we're putting in.”

L'Angolo ("the corner") seats 96 with both inside and al fresco dining and will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Petricelli says they have sourced as much as they can from organic producers, including the flour they are using in their dozen or so pizzas.

As at Colle Rosso, all the pasta is made in-house, including cannelloni with white veal ragu, a truffle and mushroom lasagne and gnocchi with Italian sausage.

The breakfast menu may raise a few eyebrows (or a few cheers) with a brekky/dessert cross-over featuring dishes such as Nutella-banana crepes, tiramisu and apple tart, as well as Italian doughnuts with hot chocolate, alongside traditional but still Italian-accented breakfasts like ham and porcini omelette.

The drinks list will focus on Italian wines and beers, including "real" Peroni and the Sardinian beer "Ichnusa".

Ruggiero and Mureddu will split their time cooking at both Colle Rosso and L'Angelo until it's bedded in.

Petricelli says they hope to open at the end of September or the first week of October.
