Word is there could be new waterside Sydney restaurants from the teams behind Aria and Kitchen by Mike. Speculation is mounting over exactly who is going into Barangaroo, specifically local food operators for the $6 billion project.

Mike McEnearney has been touted for a spinoff to his Rosebery hit, Kitchen by Mike. "I am interested, but the numbers have to stack up," McEnearney says.

A spokeswoman at Lotus Dumpling Bar at Walsh Bay confirmed serious Barangaroo interest.

There's also sizeable food-industry buzz emanating from the camp of Aria's Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan about Barangaroo, specifically a multi-level waterside site.

Matt Moran recently told Good Food the group is well-placed for expansion, but refused to comment on specific locations.

Gelato Messina is poised to join the Barangaroo party. Neil Perry has also signalled an interest in opening a Sydney branch of Rosetta, his Italian restaurant in Melbourne.

But don't try to make a booking just yet. If it goes ahead, Perry says it would be in the later casino stage of the development, which is years away.

There will be more than 50 restaurants, bars and cafes in the project.
