The tiny 25-seater restaurant, located in Beverly Hills, had a soft launch in mid-January when Stone explained his choice of name to guests and family members.

“I called the restaurant Maude after my late granny, who taught me how to cook rich, brittle, Scottish-style chocolate fudge.

"She also made a great leg of lamb with crispy potatoes and peas.”

Some of the mis-matched delicate crockery in use at the restaurant once belonged to his late grandmother.

Maude will offer diners a 10-course taster menu at $USD 75 per head, with the menu celebrating different seasonal ingredients each month. March will be dedicated to the artichoke, while peas will get top billing in the northern hemisphere's April.

Stone admitted that turning a profit with his first restaurant venture would be a challenge.

“[Maude] would probably say I've spent way too much money and that I'll probably go broke. She was a total pessimist.” But at least he's getting some free labor by way of two-year-old son Hudson, who's been helping his dad water the herb garden.
