David Thompson is bringing Thai street food to Melbourne, opening Long Chim at Crown in early 2017.

The Melbourne restaurant, which replaces No. 8 on the promenade at Crown, will be Thompson's third Long Chim restaurant in Australia.

He opened in Perth in December and has a second Long Chim slated to open in Sydney's CBD in mid-August. Singapore is home to the original Long Chim.

Melbourne's branch of the growing street food chain is expected to open in January or February 2017.

This year Asia's 50 Best Restaurants recognised David Thompson with a lifetime achievement award and his high-end Bangkok restaurant Nahm was ranked 37 in the World's 50 Best list.
