Things may get ugly at this coming Harvest Festival where visitors are invited to pull on some sensible boots, roll up their sleeves and work with some of the Daylesford Macedon region's fine food producers.

"This, our seventh festival, will be about getting your hands dirty alongside our producers, growers, chefs and vignerons," says festival chairwoman Alla Wolf-Tasker, legend of the Lake House.

Break down and bone out half a rare-breed pig at Jonai Farms or make a French farmhouse-style goat's cheese where the goats were born and milked at Cremona Hillside Farm.

Maidenii vermouth producers Shaun Byrne and Gilles Lapulus and Four Pillars gin-maker Cameron McKenzie may even cover making a dirty martini in their martini masterclass.

The Daylesford Macedon Produce Harvest Festival runs from Friday, April 24 to Sunday, May 3; full program at dmproduce.com.au.
