Waitressing mishaps? Former Epicure Good Food restaurant critic Larissa Dubecki has had a few. "It was my first shift at a gastropub, and they hadn't warned me there would be strippers at the footy function," she says of one of her many short-held waiting jobs before becoming a food writer. "I dropped a steak knife down a stairwell and only just missed the 'entertainment'."

To launch her new book Prick with a Fork (Allen & Unwin, $30), a memoir about being the world's worst waitress, Pope Joan will host a four-course dinner. There won't be strippers, but there will be Dubecki's dream-team menu, with courses from Dave Verheul, Neil Perry, Andrew McConnell and Matt Wilkinson.

Sunday, August 23, $95 a head with matched wines from Woods Wine Distributors, including Chateau Napoleon Champagne; contact@popejoan.com.au
