The well-loved and one-hatted Bacash restaurant's site goes to auction next Thursday to determine an outright owner of the South Yarra building.

Chef Michael Bacash and wife Fiona own half the freehold of the South Yarra property but a difference with business partner Stefan Bradica has resulted in the sale.

Bacash says he has a 16-year lease on the business and though it's been a difficult three years the restaurant is going nowhere, "no matter the outcome of the auction". He moved into the property at 175 Domain Road in 2001, buying into the freehold in 2007 with a view to significantly renovate.

He sees the outcome of the auction - with price expectations of around $3.5 million - as "a release, and a chance to move forward". He says he and his team are "looking forward to all we can achieve in the restaurant" after next Thursday, October 10.
