Double the fun as Thornbury's Carwyn Cellars expands

Nola James

Ben Carwyn of Thornbury's Carwyn Cellars – bar, bottle shop, brewer and hot sauce producer – has been hard at work absorbing his neighbours. Thanks to a takeover of the antique shop next door, he's added a second retail space (another 150 bottles doubles their wine collection), and a new wood-panelled room now adjoins the back bar for master classes and the like. But the most interesting stuff is still to come: a neglected yard space will become a beer garden with seats for 60. Carwyn wants to chuck at least two smokers back there, and build the venue's first kitchen: the Moor's Head and Kustom Burgers currently make deliveries. Take note chefs: he's looking for volunteers to take the space for pop-ups and residencies. 877 High Street, Thornbury, carwyncellars.com.
