Manly has the Hemmes-owned Papi Chulo, and from next month Surry Hills will be home to Chica Linda, the latest venture from rival hospitality group Drink'n'Dine.

Is Sydney going a little loco? Chica Linda opens May 1 downstairs at the Carrington on Bourke Street, offering Latino fare.

The group originally planned to open Madame Mafongo in an upstairs space, a restaurant modelled on a Guatemalan grandma's kitchen, before deciding to take a wider sweep, covering a broader base of Central and South America.

We've had a peek at the planned menu and it includes achiote smoked chicken, asado steak skewers and Puerto Rican roast pig.

Drink'n'Dine has been one of Sydney's more enterprising groups with its food offering, opening House of Crabs at the Norfolk in Redfern and an American joint at the Oxford Tavern in Petersham.
