Here's one for the diary - a film about an extraordinary meal at one of the world's top restaurants. In 2013, more than 40 international artists gathered at El Celler de Can Roca to put together an "opera in 12 courses".
There were 12 dishes created by the Roca brothers, the visionary chefs whose much-lauded three Michelin star restaurant just outside Barcelona is one of the world's best. Accompanying them were 12 wines, songs, reflections from thinkers and poets, and a card game. It was part performance, part art exhibition, and one legendary meal.
The story behind the dinner has been turned into a visually lush film titled El Somni [The Dream], directed by Frank Aleu, which showcases Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca's passion for food and art. You can see it at the Winter Film Series at the National Gallery of Australia on Wednesday, June 24.
The Winter Film Series is curated by The Canberra Times' chief film writer Simon Weaving - and after the film I'll join Weaving for a Q&A session to talk about some of the ideas that the film explores. $12-$16. Wednesday, June 24, at 6.30pm. See nga.gov.au/winterfilmseries.
